Amazon buys Liquavista: color Kindle coming up? - Knack.be

Amazon has Liquavista acquired from Samsung. That feeds the speculation that Amazon would work on a color version of the Kindle e-reader.

After two months of rumors about an imminent sale, Amazon has now confirmed to The Digital Reader that since April 29, the company has acquired Liquavista. That was before still owned by Samsung.

Liquavista specializes in energy efficient color displays. This seems to indicate that Amazon is planning to spend working with color e-ink. A new Kindle e-reader from Amazon will not lose much on the acquisition. But a sentence like “we are excited about the possibilities and look forward to it to develop together with Liquavista screens” only feeds speculation.

Technology Philips

Samsung had just bought Liquavista in 2011. The technology is based on “electrowetting” is essentially derived from Philips. In the system are colored oil drops, drops of water, and a transparent electrode in layers one above the other. Doo the electrostatic balance, and the pressure to shift the electronic ink can be manipulated. Refresh rate that would otherwise work better than those of leading E-Ink screens and could also be flexibly. E-Ink would be still more energy efficient work.
